Living in the GTA means two things: you spend way too much time on the QEW, and you’re probably thinking about upgrading your kitchen. Whether you’re maximizing a tight Mississauga condo or finally giving that detached house in Meadowvale the refresh it needs, the granite conversation always comes back to the same question: What is this beautiful stone actually going to cost me?

There’s a lot of vague, generic pricing online, but it rarely applies to what things cost here in the real market. At DreamStone Kitchen, we install granite all over the region, from Brampton to Oakville, and we believe homeowners deserve transparent answers. We’re cutting through the noise. This is the honest-to-goodness breakdown of what you’ll pay for granite in the GTA, based on the projects we are quoting and installing right now.

Why The Price Tag Varies: It’s Not Just a Rock

First, you need to know why the price of granite isn’t fixed. It’s like buying a custom piece of furniture—the cost changes based on the material, its rarity, and the labour required to make it fit your unique space.

Mother Nature sets the initial price tag. Common, dependable granite colours (think black or grey) are abundant, keeping their material cost around $40 to $60 per square foot. But if you want a true showstopper—the “exotic” slabs with complex veining and rare minerals, like Blue Bahia—you’re paying for scarcity. Those luxury materials can easily reach $100 to $200 per square foot for the slab alone.

Customization also adds to the complexity. The thickness of the stone matters; we generally use 2cm with a 4cm mitre edge as it creates a more refined appearance. If you have a large island and insist on absolutely no seams, you need a jumbo slab, which requires specialized sourcing and transportation. Even your preferred edge choice affects the bill: a simple eased edge is cost-effective, but a decorative ogee or stacked bullnose requires significantly more time for our skilled labourers to route and polish, adding about $10 to $20 per linear foot.

And, of course, we live in Ontario. That 13% HST is a factor on any large renovation purchase.

Granite Product Tiers for Mississauga Homes

You have incredible variety when selecting stone. We stock everything from natural granite to engineered stone, like the popular Lucent Quartz line.

  • The Smart Budget Tier ($40–$70/sq ft): This is your durable, uniform granite. It’s a workhorse perfect for rental properties or if you prioritize function and budget.
  • The Sweet Spot Tier ($70–$100/sq ft): Most of our clients land here. These stones, like speckled Santa Cecilia, balance excellent aesthetics with a manageable price tag. You can browse all the options in our Countertops Collection.
  • The Showstopper Tier ($100–$150+/sq ft): This is for the rare, dramatic granite that serves as the visual centre of a luxury kitchen. It provides the biggest boost to resale value. If you’re looking for a luxury engineered option that mimics marble without the maintenance, check out our Caesarstone line.

Installation: The Part Where We Sweat

Installation is serious labour—it’s precise physics. In the GTA, the installation fee typically runs $30–$50 per square foot.

Why the cost? Because moving a single, massive, fragile slab that weighs hundreds of pounds up tight staircases or into condo elevators takes a trained crew. This fee covers digital templating (which costs $500–$1,000 alone to ensure a perfect fit), the delivery, the heavy lifting, and the professional sealing that protects the stone from stains. We use advanced Italian CNC machinery in our facility to ensure your stone is fabricated perfectly before it even leaves our shop.

The Total Damage and The “Gotchas”

For a standard 100-square-foot kitchen, here are the total installed costs:

A Low-End project with standard granite and simple edges usually lands between $5,000 and $8,000. If you opt for Mid-Range stones with some custom edge work, you’re looking at $8,000–$12,000. A High-End renovation with exotic stone and a full backsplash can easily hit $12,000–$20,000+.

Be aware of the “gotchas” that sink budgets: Cutting the perfect hole for your undermount sink costs about $100–$200 per sink. If we have to remove and dispose of your old counters, budget another $300–$500 for the tear-out fee. We also offer cabinet refacing as a popular way to save money if your cabinet boxes are still in good condition.

Want to save a little cash? Try scheduling your install during the quieter winter months, which can sometimes shave 10–15% off the labour costs. Also, look at our “remnants” for smaller jobs like vanities—it’s a great way to get a piece of luxury stone for less. Remember, we also offer a Price Match Guarantee against any local competitor.
